17 U Girls Explosion

Luke Bazely, Head Coach

Luke Bazely is the Head Coach of the 17U girls program and brings extensive leadership, team-building and organizational experience to the role. As a business leader and entrepreneur, he has spent much of his career building teams, developing people and creating cultures centred on accountability, trust and shared purpose.

Luke believes sport offers young athletes an important opportunity to grow well beyond their technical abilities. Learning to work hard toward a shared goal, respond to adversity, be accountable to teammates and contribute to something larger than themselves helps develop the confidence, resilience and character that athletes will carry into life beyond volleyball.

His approach is to create an environment where athletes are challenged, supported and expected to grow. The goal is to build a highly competitive team while helping each athlete become a stronger teammate, leader and person through the experience of pursuing something difficult together.

Dave Arbuckle, Head Coach

Coach Dave has been involved with coaching youth volleyball in Sault Ste. Marie since 2018 and has been coaching with Sault Ignite Volleyball since 2020.  Taking on the role of a coach with the 14U program this year, his coaching philosophy is focused on building solid volleyball fundamentals in all aspects of the game and developing athletes’ confidence and belief in themselves and their team both on and off the court.

The certainty that volleyball should be competitive, fun and inclusive all at once and a tool to learn lifelong skills for personal growth both on and off the court is a main building block of the program.  Belief that success is measured by more than just the scoreboard is a foundational pillar of the program.

“My goal is to bring the joy and passion I developed for the sport of volleyball playing in southern Ontario as a youth to these athletes with the hopes that they will developing the same life-long love for the game as I have”

Danielle Oak-Brown, Assistant Coach

With 25+ years of volleyball coaching experience, I have coached athletes at the elementary, high school, and club levels, focusing on skill progression, player development, and building strong team cultures.

My coaching philosophy centers on development and team-first values. I believe every athlete has the ability to improve, and my role is to provide the training, support, and environment needed to help them reach their potential. I focus on strong fundamentals and progressively developing technical skills, volleyball IQ, athleticism, and confidence, while teaching athletes to communicate, compete, support one another, and put the team ahead of individual achievements.

I am a Level 1 NCCP Certified Coach and am currently working towards completing Level 2. For me, coaching is about more than winning games; it’s about helping athletes develop the skills, confidence, work ethic, and character they can carry with them both on and off the court.

Since 2021, I have served as the Head Coach of the St. Mary’s Knights Junior Girl’s Volleyball team. I have led teams to 3 League & City High School Championships, 2 NOSSA Gold Medal finishes, and 2 NOSSA Silver Medal finishes. I also served as head coach of the 14U-17U Girls' Sault Ignite teams.

Develop the player. Build the team. Compete together.
